Gender?

I had a conversation with an acquaintance and I heard how boxed into the role of a man I am. Is it nature that makes us have our differences or is it the environment that promotes this dichotomy of the sexes. From the movies we watched in youth to the interest we were told are for “boys” and “girls”. I want to be free of this by understanding my meaning as a man and understanding their meaning as a woman. I am like an American to the world of gender, I think that only my language ( The motif of men) is all there is and in my ignorance I can’t appreciate all the world only my skewed version of it.
